At some point, you may want or need to update the insulation in your home. You can choose between regular batts of fiberglass insulation, blown-in cellulose, or spray foam insulation. Putting in additional batts would require you to remove the drywall or interior walls. You will not have to take down any interior walls and can simply make a small hole in the area that needs added insulation when you use spray foam. The foam will disperse into the walls and expand, filling the area. It does not require any special machines you need to rent the way you would have to if you wanted to blow in cellulose.

Air-Tight Seal

Because spray foam expands to fill the area, it creates an air-tight seal. The foam can fill tiny cracks and large holes and spread around pipes or electric wires. This type of insulation is a good choice if you just need to fill in an area that has another type already in place.

Waterproof

Another problem with the other types of insulation is water and moisture. Even if there are no cracks or holes in the walls, the area between the outside and inside walls can become wet or moist with condensation. This can happen regardless of the weather outside, and you may not realize it is happening. Spray foam is waterproof, so it stays in place and remains a solid form of insulation even if there is a broken pipe or leak in the walls.

Deters Mold

Other than destroying fiberglass batts and cellulose, moisture in the walls provides a breeding ground for mold. The way spray foam adheres to the inside of the walls prevents any space for the mold to live and grow. In addition, the structure and materials that make up the foam have been treated with a substance that prevents mold growth on the foam itself.

Keeping your home properly insulated is the best way to save on your heating and cooling bills. It can also reduce noise from outside. When you add spray foam insulation to your walls, you will find the interior of the house stays at a more comfortable temperature and is nice and quiet.
